The article, "Open Letter to 9th Graders" by Patrick Sullivan enlightens high school students upon the true difficulties that you will face in college if you do not treat your education properly in High school. The authors intentions in this article were to prepare future college students by listing skills he has seen in successful students in the past and skills that he hasn't seen in other students. Next, the author shows his main point by saying "Accepting that you aren't the best is very important and do not feel so inflated that your pride gets in the way of your understanding and critique of the plot line." This quote is to represent that if your pride gets in the way of your education, you will not succeed. He also shows that it is important to develop good skills in high school because they transition into college. Most points in this article are agreeable. The skills that the author talks about are important skills that will help be successful. Some people have disagreed that you don't always have a positive attitude to succeed.

  1. Well structured paragraph with smooth transitions--yahoo!

Work to eliminate second person "you" from writing: "...a student will not succeed."
