An Open Letter to 9th Graders

Patrick Sulivan, the author of An Open Letter to 9th Graders, introduced us to the ideas that we need to keep in mind so that we are prepared and successful when college comes. I believe that the Author’s reason for writing the letter was to enlighten students about what they can do to prepare for college. He also helps motivate students to become a better person. The main point of the article was to encourage students to enjoy their assignments and for self value instead of just doing it for the grade. As we once heard from a teacher, she would turn in her assignments that she felt she did good on and would not come back to receive a grade because she did it for her own learning, not the grade. We agreed that it takes maturity, life skills, and determination to succeed in college. As a high school freshman this article was very eye-opening and gives us insight and goals to set throughout high school.
